I’m Connie Littlefield. Welcome to my website!

My work includes “Hofmann’s Potion: The Early Years of LSD,” released in 2002. Produced by the National Film Board of Canada, this was one of the first documentaries to delve into the little known early history of the world’s most famous psychedelic. This film has been credited with changing the way many people think about psychedelic drugs.
With its all-star cast – Albert Hofmann, Stanislav Grof, Laura Huxley, Humphry Osmond, Abram Hoffer, Myron Stolaroff, Duncan Blewett, Ram Dass, and Ralph Metzner— Director Connie Littlefield’s Hofmann’s Potion chronicles and demystifies major psychedelic events of the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Archival footage of Aldous Huxley, Humphry Osmond, and Timothy Leary captures the excitement of those decades and raises questions about possible useful uses of psychedelics in therapy and religion today.

“The Sunshine Makers” (2015), is a story that developed over the long haul. I wrote and produced this feature-length documentary film in collaboration with Passion Pictures, UK.
“…there’s no question that hanging out with Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn on acid has its appeal,” said Manohla Dargis, in The New York Times.

“A real-life Breaking Bad for the psychedelic set, The Sunshine Makers reveals the entertaining, untold story of Nicholas Sand and Tim Scully, the unlikely duo at the heart of 1960s American drug counterculture.”
– DOC NYC
“The Sunshine Makers” opened January 20, 2017, in New York City; online and in other cities a week later. Here are links to reviews of the film in The New York Times, The New York Post, SF Gate, The Village Voice and Rolling Stone.

“As its title suggests, “The Sunshine Makers” is probably the happiest, most carefree drug documentary you’re likely to see. The film explores the people behind the most well-known strain of LSD, who produced millions of doses in a single, sleep-deprived month. Their goal wasn’t money, but instead they wanted to save the world: If everyone took LSD, they would experience the feelings of love and connectedness the hallucinogen promises.”
– Kimber Myers, The Los Angeles Times

“In all the documentaries about the stupidities of the war against drugs, the smartest documentary yet may well be Damage Done: The Drug War Odyssey,” said The Vancouver Sun, in 2007. This film, which I wrote and directed, features Senator Larry Campbell, Judge James Gray, former officer Howard Wooldridge, and NYPD (Retired) Detective Frank Serpico.

In April 2016, I graduated with a Master of Fine Arts degree in filmmaking from NSCAD University. With the help of the student body and a few profesional friends, I made a short film, “Huxley’s Exit,” about treating end-of-life anxiety with psychedelics.

During my time at NSCAD, I also wrote a thesis about the pedagogy of filmmaking, “Shoot First, Ask Questions Later: An Artist’s Statement About Teaching Film.” In it, I attempt to define a more artisanal and collaborative approach to the medium.
Currently I am in production on a documentary about Ann & Sasha Shulgin, titled “Better Living Through Chemistry.”

Thanks for stopping by my web site! I’m open to all kinds of collaborations, so don’t be shy, get in touch.
Thank you for your work, Connie – it’s all top rate. Looking forward on your film of Sasha and Ann- I had the pleasure of knowing them years ago. Was a very interested time indeed – cheers.
